The Tax Filing Deadline Is Here

by Tax Guy - Burlington Accountant on April 30, 2009 Print This Post Print This Post

If you have not yet filed your taxes, today is the last day for individuals (unless you are self employed).

You have until midnight tonight to file to avoid a 5% penalty on any balance owing. You can file electronically using EFILE or Telefile and can prepare your taxes easily using TurboTax.

If you are mailing your taxes ensure you get to the post office before it closes since the CRA will look at the postmark to determine if you are late.

If you don’t have your slips, make a reasonable estimate and attach a note to your return indicating what slips are missing, what you are doing to get them and of course the amount of your estimates. When you
have the slips you can file an amendment easily.

If you have subscribed to Canadian Tax Resource, stay tuned as I will continue to not only post tax info but also helpful personal finance tips throughout the year.
